Nanoparticle Zinc Sunscreens.. BEST!

Posted in beauty, nano sunscreen, nano zinc, nanotechnology, Skin care, Sun care, sunscreen by sunscreensquad on October 28, 2009

Has anyone heard doom-and-gloom stories about the potential health dangers of teeny nano particles in their sunscreen? Well I have been concerned about that too so have been keeping my eye on a study by Environmental Working Group. Their latest report says that they expected to find some nasty issues with sunscreens containing nano ingredients BUT.. they actually find that nano products are much safer than any other sunscreen, and in fact they recommend sunscreens containing nano ingredients. As well as containing less harmful ingredients, they give 20% more protection from UVA than any other sunscreen.

I’ve heard a few tidbits about nano-particle sunscreen but I don’t know what to look for when shopping. Have you found a good one, especially for face?

Hi Wolfen. I have read about the proposed changes to sunscreen labeling by the FDA on your blog. HOPEFULLY the plans will be implemented within our lifetime! I have more respect for Australian sun care products over US products because I am in shock over what sunscreen manufacturers can get away with in The States; For example, allowing companies to label SPF 100 is outrageous and does more harm than good. I would recommend getting your hands on Aussie products. The regulators there have capped the SPF labeling at a much more reasonable 30+ among other things. I would say that this product is as close to the best you can get in the world. Invisible Zinc.

Aloha Pale Girl, I agree with you the misleading labeling and misleading SPF labels in the USA are the reason skin cancer has reached such staggering numbers. Broad Spectrum Sunscreens have been out for such a short time that we really don’t know how effective they truly are. I actually printed out the entire listing from the EWG for sunscreens for our office. since I live in Hawaii much like Australia we are constantly protecting ourselves from the sun. I do know and believe that people have a false sense of security with sunscreen products and think that they prevent cancer. THEY DO NOT. If and when applied properly they can help one avoid getting a sunburn but the long term cumulative effects of sun exposure still puts individuals at a high risk level for potential precursors to skin cancer. Australia is much more proactive when it comes to sun care products, Europe too I sure hope we catch up soon. What are some of your favorite sun protection products from Australia we are always looking for new things to feature on our web? Devra SunEscaper/Hawaii

Hi Devra, I always choose the Invisible Zinc products when in Australia. I live in Hong Kong now, and find Bioderma and Laroche Posay French sunscreens very effective also.
